Venice, 8 May 2025 – “After the entry into force of the amendment to the Bern Convention on the declassification of the wolf, EU intervention was needed and today it has finally arrived.
The Plenary Assembly authorised the amendment of the EU Habitats Directive 92/43/EEC as regards the protection status of the wolf (Canis lupus), which thus goes from “strictly protected” to “protected”. An operation made possible also thanks to the work of the entire ECR Group – Fratelli d'Italia, to whom I extend my thanks”.
Thus said regional councilor Tommaso Razzolini, of the Brothers of Italy – Giorgia Meloni Group, member of the Third Permanent Commission of the Venetian Legislative Assembly.
“Thanks to the concrete contribution of the ECR – Fratelli d'Italia group, the downgrading of the wolf is now a reality.
There has been a lot of talk about the wolf, especially following the attacks on livestock in our pastures and the recent sightings near the homes of some families in the Treviso area and in other areas of the Veneto.
With the EU's intervention, individual states are now given the opportunity to better manage the population of this species, balancing the protection of biodiversity with the safety of rural areas.
The relevant bodies will finally be able to follow up on requests from the territory, implementing management plans for the species".
Thus said regional councilor Tommaso Razzolini, of the Brothers of Italy – Giorgia Meloni Group, member of the Third Permanent Commission of the Venetian Legislative Assembly.
