Le recognized hunting associations (Italian Federation of Hunting, National Free Hunting Association, Enalcaccia, Arcicaccia, AnuuMigratoristi, Italcaccia) and the CNCN - National hunting and nature committee, have welcomed the publication of the annual research data that the University of Urbino takes place on accidents that occur during hunting: in fact, 2021 confirms the trend of gradual decline of all indicators, both deaths and injuries, which has been observed for several years now.
Going into detail, the number of deaths, filtered by episodes related to illnesses, falls or intentional or unlawful acts, it went from 18 in 2017, to 15 in 2019 and 13 in 2021. Similarly, the number of injuries also decreased from 63 in 2017, to 60 in 2019 and to 54 in 2021. As it is easy to understand, the data for 2020, slightly lower than last year, are not significant for the purpose of a trend assessment, because the hunting season had been affected by the restrictions linked to the pandemic, which had reduced its duration.
On the other hand, the fact that no deaths were involved was also positive people unrelated to hunting. These results are due to the commitment of all Italian hunters, who show that they know how to better interpret that role of responsible hunter towards the territory and the community, which is at the heart of modern hunting. A commitment that naturally starts from attention to aspects related to safety both for individual hunting and, above all, for that in collective form.
The report of the University of Urbino also confirms, once again, that hunting is one of the safest outdoor activities, even if the associations of the hunting world cannot - and do not want to - be satisfied with these results, even if they are positive. Although the trend of accidents is decreasing, it is clear that the goal must remain to aim for “zero deaths” e "Zero accidents", making hunting an increasingly safer activity.
In this sense, the commitment of recognized hunting associations and of the CNCN continues and strengthens in training, informing and raise awareness of all those who are dedicated to hunting, in order to keep attention focused on the importance of adopting prudent behavior, not only during the exercise of hunting practice, but also in the preparatory stages, in order to guarantee the maximum protection of one's own safety and that of others (Federcaccia, Enalcaccia, AnuuMigratoristi, Arcicaccia, National Free Hunting Association, Italcaccia, CNCN - National Nature Hunt Committee).
