Possible confusions
The EU Hunting Regulatory Guide addresses the problem of possible confusion between some huntable and other protected species, in paragraphs 2.6.10 to 2.6.13. This argument is also at the basis of the ISPRA proposals for the suspension of tufted duck hunting in some regions, of theteal in some Sicilian ATCs and in part of the fighter. Consequently, anti-hunting associations use these positions in continuous appeals to administrative justice. However, the Guide clarifies how to address this potential problem, and a hunting ban is never included as one of the solutions, but rather local management and hunter education.
Naturalistic culture
Federcaccia considers education and awareness-raising to be the objectives to be pursued, which is why it has long undertaken training campaigns for hunters, through its own newspaper "Il Cacciatore Italiano", but also with specific evenings and meetings on the topic, organized in Veneto and Emilia Romagna. It is now a fact that the world of hunters must demonstrate that they have a naturalistic culture, knowledge of the species and their management and conservation, also in order to obtain the recognition of the role of "conservators" that they have always had, but which must be established in public opinion.
Huntable species and protected species
With this in mind, Federcaccia presents the attached sheets, which anyone can consult, to improve their knowledge of the huntable species that may resemble some protected ones. Federcaccia wants to keep all species huntable and this initiative demonstrates the hunters' commitment to legal and sustainable hunting, an essential step for legitimizing hunting activity among public opinion and institutions (Faunal and Agro-environmental Studies and Research Office).
