The request for the early closure of the hunting season by environmental and animal welfare associations has been repeated for a few days now, also taking its cue from meteorological conditions of different Italian regions. Ecosystem's staff is CABS (Committee Against Bird Slaughter), the committee that deals with combating poaching, was not far behind, turning to Calabria Region to request changes to the 2016-2017 calendar.
However, the example of Basilicata did not help convince the local authority, given that the request to suspend hunting for song thrush, redwing, cesena and woodcock was rejected. Incidentally, the initiative was undertaken by the CABS despite the favorable opinions of some Regional Administrative Courts and Council of State on the hunting choices of Calabria and other regions.
Calabrian hunters will therefore be able to continue until the original deadline set by the calendar, even if the same committee does not want to give up an inch. As he had predicted, he will address the Court of Auditors to quantify a possible economic damage to the state coffers, as well as the Ministry of the Environment. Any anticipation of the closure would have taken place two days ago, Tuesday 10 January 2017, a decision that would have caused even more uncertainty.
