One arrives on trial Remington Model 700 ADL: the weapon is certainly not new with its action known by anyone with the slightest interest in rifled rifles, but the details taken care of by the House of Ilion make it an appreciable entity worthy of attention every time. The preparation of this rifle that we have in our hands contemplates a surface finish of the metals in matte black, to guarantee resistance to the harmful attacks of rust and various oxidations, as well as the accidental blows that are sometimes inevitable when hunting. Anthracite black also the stock made of synthetic with the usual shapes, without aesthetic refinements, but with a lot of functionality and that elegance of its own and analogous, in the field of clothing, to the dark gray suit. Therefore, there are no too marked curves or straight lines interrupted in their natural development: in short, we are not going to make it so long, so every passionate reader has perfectly understood how this 700 is also an example of innovative tradition. Maybe this last assertion can be counted among the oxymorons that are so fashionable today, without touching the heights of lyricism of the famous (or infamous?) "Parallel convergences" that don't even compete with us.
The technique
Do not be afraid to go out of the game in re-proposing oneself is for Remington a strong and concise assertion of security in the goodness of one's own discovery and equally a trust, with good reason, of the validity of the same on the market. Do not fear the passing of the years and wear imaginary white hair with wise ease, especially when all around many are busy for an ideal re-dyeing, it gives the measure of concreteness: knowing the expectations of customers and maintaining that product that satisfies them. it turns out to be an ideal accompaniment to every hunter and shooter who ideally proclaims "I am here next to you and I keep what I promised you". The number of arrangements proposed on the basis of the Mod. 700 is truly extraordinary and this ADL is a sum of functionality at a very low price: the House prepares the assembly of a 3-9 × 42 lens, obviously made in low-cost places of labor, but with its supervision to ensure reliable quality. This is with regard to the package on offer. For the test we have been sent an additional telescope of very different caliber: a valuable Leupold..verif with which we performed the first tests.
It is almost superfluous to retrace the structure of the action 700, an example of design linearity aimed at a low-cost execution and a respectable performance: the castle with cylindrical section and short size, welcomes the barrel with the interposition in the threaded ring of the shaped plate for the unloading of the forces. The thick sides guarantee maximum rigidity: on the right side you can see the ejection window and in the bottom the slot for the fixed magazine. Little waste of material for these openings, again in order not to affect the rigidity, while guaranteeing easy access for inserting the cartridges. In the rear profile of the two-diameter bridge there is the inclined plane against which the handlebar contrasts by carrying out the primary extraction while the enveloping shape extends into the codetta where the sliding milling of the firing pin nut is made.
The cylindrical bolt boasts a remarkable sturdiness: the two front wings are slightly set back from the face, which is in turn very recessed, so as to allow a greater advancement of the head within the barrel. The bottom of the cartridge is thus enclosed in the well-known three steel rings, the head, the breech of the barrel and the castle, on which the shrewd company advertising is based. Still you can observe the extractor consisting of a C-shaped sheet, inserted elastically in the groove obtained within the thickness of the head and from which the tiny gripping nail protrudes: in contrast, next to the firing pin hole, the spring pawl of the ejector protrudes. In the rear part of the cylinder the arched base of the handlebar is welded, consisting of the sturdy arm with prism section and angled shape that ends in the oval knuckle with checkering in the hand support surfaces: slightly protruding and ideal for maneuvering. The tooth of the internal firing pin protrudes below, moved by a coaxial spring: the time of just 3 milliseconds makes this implant one of the fastest on the market. The complex is closed by the cylindrical apical cap tapered on a double radius: the shank of the firing pin protrudes from the internal hole giving notice to the eye and to the touch of the armed mechanics. Note the longitudinal milling of the right flap which engages in the rib obtained within the corresponding side of the castle, preventing the shutter from skidding during the stroke and favoring the rapidity of rearming. Still inside the bridge, on the left side, there is the stop tooth, a sturdy shaped plate, moved by the square button placed in front of the root of the trigger.
Barrel, snap and safe
The carbon steel barrel measures 610 mm (24 ") distributed on a tapered conical cylinder section: upon visual inspection the rifling made by cold hammering appears in the canons with polished surfaces and sharp edges, straightened in a workmanlike manner and with a protective annular drop at the muzzle. With the 6,5 Creedmoor cartridge, the pitch of 1: 8 "is adopted. The external surface is opacified by the particular oxidation and rubbing-proof finish, similar to what can be seen on the castle. The trigger of the X Mark-Pro type relies on the characteristic polished trigger, well arched and provided with a rear stiffening rib: the release is crisp and clean, but we cannot find suitable for long-distance shots, to which the gun and cartridge are dedicated , the weight of over 2.400 g. The adjustment screw on which according to the advertisement should be able to act from the outside, actually has a paint that prevents rotation: evident the company will to check, in case of legal issues, if the customer has changed the factory setting, guaranteed beyond all imaginable limits. There is a bit of regret for those two-trigger sticks that constantly hold 290 grams or direct ones, again from Central European manufacturers, which range between 500 and 900 g without moving conspicuous gatherings of lawyers. Otherwise the US solution is there, and also magnificent even if a little expensive, with a Timney or Jewell package. The safety relies on a lever with a roller button placed on the right side of the castle, behind the hole in which the bolt arm is placed: comfortable, silent, functional as a weapon in the tappet, it has, if you really want, the only flaw for the non-blocking of the maneuver, but otherwise the firing pin and trigger inhibition are totally reliable, allowing you to release in peace by extracting the chambered cartridge.
Kicking, shooting test and conclusion
A not too dark anthracite gray highlights the stock made by polymer molding: nothing particular to highlight, only that classicism of lines that aesthetically never get bored, on the contrary they are an element of certainty for a satisfaction of the eye and for a function on the field as safe as the rising of the sun. These excellent features are integrated with the insertion of corrugated panels in the grip points, with considerable adherence to the hands even with water or mud, the flat profile of the bottom of the shaft for firm support on the rest or backpack, the presence of the shock-absorbing butt pad "R Supercell ”which, without external evidence, does a really good job. There are also two pegs for attaching the sling t-shirts.
On the Carrù shooting range we juggle with the Maestro, his friend Carlo, always generous with ideas and dexterity, to calibrate the Leupold VX-6 HD 2-12 × 42 optic that deserves a piece of his own to which we refer to those who amiably follows us. The intrinsic precision of the 6,5 Creedmoor is well known, but it is a question of finding the right match: a good result with the Hornady Match equipped with a 147 gr ELD® Match bullet. We then move on to the refill detectable in the images accompanying the text where the N / 550 powder and the particular 153 gr HM HP RWS hunting bullets prove to be adequate: three shots at 100 meters in 22 mm, with a slight horizontal deviation. to indicate our small posture error, they are a good result, more than suitable for hunting use. To conclude we underline the conspicuous sticker placed on the stock "Limited Warranty Lifetime" we think it can translate into a lifetime guarantee: a good and favorable thing. Then a little smaller there is another writing “Proudly Made in the USA by American Workers”. Already the USA: a hard and active nation in which the citizen cannot turn the handle in the relationship with the State, but towards this State every good citizen brings affection and respect.
