THEringing at the station ofPonza Island has officially restarted, as confirmed via social media by the organizers themselves. This is their message: “Here we are, back on the island and active again at the ringing station of Ponza. Today, 23 February 2022, the 2022 field activity season officially began. After frantic preparations and a few days of bad weather, we opened the nets at dawn, with a wonderful sun and clear skies that heralded a fabulous weather.
The first catch of the year was a Robin, followed by other typical species of the season, such as the Black Redstart and the Sparrow. In the course of the first two hours of activity we have ringed 30 birds, to arrive at about 50 birds ringed in total at the end of the day. Already on the first day we were delighted by a nice surprise, that is the first recapture of the year! It is an Occhiocotto most likely ringed here in Ponza last year! We can't wait to tell you about it our next days, stay tuned and we will reward you with photos of the species captured and the breathtaking views of Ponza! " (source: CISCA ONLUS).
