La ringing station ofPonza Island has updated information relating to its activities. Not long after the end of the migration season and therefore these details are becoming more and more interesting. Here is what the volunteers wrote about it: “We have arrived in May and the weather in the last week has settled a bit. The number of ringed birds has fallen, with an average of 100 birds per day. Yesterday the sun was shining, the wind was a bit cold and they took no more than 2-6 birds per ride.
The nets seemed almost empty! In this time, the catches are typical of the month and the end of the migration season: Beccafico, Canapino Maggiore and Luì verde as the prevailing species. Among the most common species, we have also ringed some less frequent visitors such as the Little shrike and the speckled Forapaglie (first of the season!).
There are only 10 days left to the end of the season, a season that has put us to the test, due to the bad weather and the large numbers of early birds. We hope that it will close in good weather, to allow us to continue with our data collection in the best possible way! ”.
