Yet another update by the ringing station of thePonza Island: "The broom is in bloom, the days get warmer and sunnier and the passage of migratory birds becomes more and more varied as the season progresses.
In the last week we have had many surprises, including the second capture of the long-eared owl (Asio otus) in the whole history of Ponza station. Many long-distance migrants are now making their way to our networks, and we had the first Whinchat (Saxicola rubetra), the first Canapino major (Hippolais icterina) and the first Calandrella (Calandrella brachydactyla).
Some stiff necks still ring, including a splendid adult which can be recognized by the brown or dark brown eye color and rounded and 'fresh' PCs with a spot only on one side. Today we also ringed a turtledove with an oriental collar (Streptopelia decaocto), a bird that is becoming more and more widespread in Italian cities and gardens "(source: CISCA ONLUS).
