Rizzini: The Baby S2000 cal. 28 of Rizzini has nothing to envy from the "big brothers" in terms of swing and ballistic performance.
The “little guy” of the Marcheno manufacturer was expressly designed for shooting from the platform, in the wake of the great success that the small calibers are experiencing in Italian sports disciplines. Recently the caliber 28 and the 410 are gradually supplanting the caliber 20 in sports competitions, which count more than fifty events organized throughout Italy with the use of this small caliber.
One of the companies that has understood the importance of small calibers is Rizzini, which was one of the first to present a 20 gauge with a dedicated action frame both in the hunting and shooting versions. The Marcheno-based company therefore put into production a 28-gauge shotgun with a dedicated action, designed exclusively for platform shooting, in particular Sporting. Hence the Rizzini Baby S2000 cal. 28 deriving from the Premier line, from which it has inherited the same mechanical characteristics, but proposed with engraved folders and traditional “Gardonese” closure that embellish the line.
On both sides the folders have engravings with floral rosettes that enhance and streamline the slightly raised line, while on the chest, surrounded by floral festoons, the name of the model is shown. The laser engravings and hand-perfected by Giovannelli's workshop have very pleasing light-dark effects.
The overlapping barrels (whose weight is around 1083 grams), assembled as a monobloc, internally chromed and built in special steel, participate in the excellent weight distribution of the Baby S2000 cal. 28. The ventilated rib has a brass point-shaped front sight, while the junction ribs are solid. The bore is 70 mm with an internal hole of 14 mm. The length of the barrels can be decided by the buyer, but 710 mm seems to us more than suitable measures to obtain a perfect weight balance and for an efficient shock absorption.
Scientifically proven that the smaller the caliber, the more the pressures resulting from the cartridge explosion increase, since the exhaust gases have little space to expand, the pressures occur higher beyond the combustion chamber. From this it follows that the thickness of the barrels must be increased with the decreasing of the caliber, with the pressures that give a "dancer" character to the gun, with the same speed as the pellets of the larger calibers, despite the lower dose of powder. The standard chokes are *** / * for the 710 mm barrels, but alternatively a series of five interchangeable chokes can be available. The wide-spread automatic extractors have springs placed on the sides of the monobloc, behind the extractors themselves. The loading is carried out through two cams which are activated by the opening movement of the rifle and which act on the recesses made on the internal front sides of the receiver. The rear part of the sleeve houses the two crampons that contain the seats of the rocker plug, while on the front side there are two other crampons that house the seats of the rocker pins.
The action is made of special steel, engraved and cemented. Its closure is of the low gusset type on crampons, whose horizontal hold is guaranteed both in the front part by the tilting pins which, with the shotgun closed, are housed on special seats of the sleeve, and in the rear part from the front of the crampons. closure that go to fit into recesses made on the rocker plate. In particular, the rear crampon houses the seats for the plug located under the breech that ensures the closing of the speargun and guarantees its vertical hold. On the bottom run two sleds which are activated by the tooth of the cross and load the springs that serve the dogs. On the internal sides in the front there are the tilting pins with the inserts for the pawls of the automatic extractors placed above the latter. The folders do not have fixing screws, but are assembled to the receiver through an interlocking system.
The battery, an exclusive Rizzini patent, despite being fixed, is created in a single block like the removable ones. This system features the insertion of a crossbar integral with the underguard which houses the entire firing unit, served by helical springs mounted on spring guides. When the front plate of the underguard is inserted into the front of the action, the crossbar rests on the tail. The underguard-tail joint is guaranteed in the terminal part by an upright integral with the underguard, on which the tail is inserted through a tooth. The latter prevents that, once the stock has been inserted, possible excess thicknesses can dilate the distance between the underguard and the tail in the terminal part, thus avoiding the negative consequence of play in the trigger group. The trigger is of the single selective trigger type, with adjustable free travel. The series shots feature a tensile strength of 1,200 kg for the first barrel and 1,500 for the second. The safety of the standard manual type is controlled by the classic slide located behind the opening key, immediately after which, in a transversal way, there is the control of the dog inverter.
The woods are in selected walnut, with the half-beaver tail shaft with knurling that covers it almost completely. The cross is fixed to the wood with two sturdy screws on the basal part, which in the center has the tooth that acts on the slides located on the bottom of the receiver, The latter load the springs that serve the dogs, while two others ensure their stability inside. The weight of the rod is 265g. The stock is in selected walnut with a particularly closed pistol grip, typical of shooting rifles, ending with a soft solid rubber buttplate.
The total weight of the shotgun, with the action frame engaged, is 1.527 g. The cal. 28 is particularly suitable for hunting in the shed, a mode that provides reduced firing distances and not necessarily powerful ammunition.
But the Baby S2000 is intended for shooting from the platform, in particular in the Sporting discipline in which it gives its best with excellent ballistic yields.
In addition, the very natural and not at all tiring swing are the features that further enrich the Rizzini Baby S2000 cal. 28, a large shotgun on a platform.
