A manufacturer of fine mechanics residing in Austria on the slopes of the Alps is almost morally obliged to reserve a production space for long rifled weapons: the passion and knowledge of the founder, Eric Rössler, led to a qualified production of this kind in Kufstein, a town wedged between Tyrol and Bavaria.
Thanks to the courtesy of the company and that of the distributor in the person of Mr. Mauro Redolfi of the RA based in Manerbio (BS) we had a sample of the Mod. Titan 6 on test for some time combined with a Kahles Helia 5 optic with values of 2,4 , 12-56x7i, another well-known and valuable brand also distributed by RA itself. In choosing the caliber, we opted for the XNUMX Rem. Mag.a multipurpose cartridge that here has made converts for hunting in the mountains where power, grazing and intrinsic precision are the primary factors of success even in long-distance shots, together with a great variety of commercial charges and the availability of different components for home charging.
The salient features
Some fixed points to follow in the design: low weight just over 3 kg, interchangeable barrel, adjustable trigger. We responded with a castle in Ergal, the aeronautical aluminum alloy with excellent characteristics of resistance and machinability to the tool, which was given a shape with flattened sides and rounded upper parts in favor of rigidity, with a long ring suitable for receiving the breech of the barrel and closed bridge equally well dimensioned: on both are predisposed the holes for the assembly of the bases of the optics. Always to the advantage of the rigidity of the complex, we still observe the small ejection window as the lower slot for inserting the polymer magazine and solid drawn steel sheet.
From the cylindrical obturator, the six differentiated profile fins are drawn downwards and arranged in two rows of three: in the lowered head you can see the rectified hole of the firing pin, the ejection pawl and the extraction nail embedded in one of the front fins, equipped with orthogonal movement and register spring. The alloy castle and the possible replacement of the barrel imply that the closure takes place directly in the mortises made in the breech with positive effects in terms of resistance and precision. The handlebar has a short arm with a prismatic section, bent back and with a round knuckle: an optimal solution to offer few chances of getting caught together with correct maneuverability, thanks also to the only 60 ° rotation required for the maneuver. The fixing takes place by means of an interlocking in a base ring in turn keyed on the central body. Note then the long apical cap modeled with a lower extension where the armament nut passes while in the upper right part a prism is obtained from the solid with the dual function of occluding the slit made in the bridge for the passage of the handlebar, favoring its smoothness together. .
The barrel is supplied by leading German companies, so we read on the company presentation, and we imagine the Lothar Walther which is always a guarantee: obtained from rotomhammering, it has six lines and a pitch of 9,5 / 1 suitable for the current bullet weights ( between 120 and 170 gr) a slim profile and a length limited to 61 cm, always in homage to the lightness and today's fashion that sacrifices something in the performance of magnum cartridges in favor of ease of carrying. Then, however, the 4,5 cm muzzle brake is added in the muzzle: in short, you negotiate between the mass of the weapon and the energy supplied by the charge, trying to please the insatiable, those who see hunting in the mountains as a gym of speed, and then the recoil sensitive or fearful of recoil, but who cannot refrain from a very high performance cartridge, at least on paper and with the necessary barrel measurements. Small outpouring of a thought that belongs to the past to underline, however, how Rössler did everything possible to satisfy today's hunter, succeeding wonderfully. Particularly all European keep the metal sights with lateral offset notch on the dovetail and double view, wide V and narrow U, plus the elevation adjustable prism sight: for some boar sortie in environments with reduced backgrounds it may be useful to remove optics and juggle with the old aiming system.
The trigger is composed of a steel package of excellent rigidity with the direct system or with French stecher, both of which are very accurate in their function. Release weights see around 1850 and 295g respectively. The lightening favors accurate shots at the greater distances allowed by the cartridge and the accuracy of the weapon. The ribbed button safety on the castle tail is functional with a trigger, firing pin and handlebar lock: silent, it is operated easily when in the tappet, but it is necessary to release without his contribution when extracting the chambered cartridge by placing due attention.
The walnut stock reveals a remarkable sturdiness, perhaps a little to the detriment of the line that appears to us a bit massive in the part between the pistol and the barrel where a light filing to the masses could offer greater pleasure to the eye, and while we are seeing each other well a brighter varnish on a background less obscured by the impregnating agent. For the rest, nothing to complain about the functionality and quality of the materials and workmanship. We also like to underline the peculiar joining system between wood and mechanics: under the ring there are two prisms side by side with two transversal threaded holes for the insertion of as many Allen screws and between these is positioned a steel sheet with two perforated lobes plus a third orthogonal hole and with screw pitch. The two parallel Allen screws are screwed to block the lamina and then the long screw inserted in the wood of the frame is closed which thus stops the wooden and mechanical front part, while a second Allen screw passes through the guard and the wood of the handle, screwing into the breech tang. At the junction points there is an epoxy filler which guarantees the constant repositioning of the parts.
So to shooting
At the Carrù shooting range, guests of our friend Giorgio Rosso, we thoroughly evaluated the possibilities of the rifle and optics, drawing a lot of satisfaction. In shooting at 100m we fired three shots with the original Federal Premium cartridges equipped with the bullet trophy® Copper, monolithic in copper of 150 gr with apex in polymer, obtaining a pattern of 9 mm. Another good result with three shots in 15 mm, always at 100 m, using the Remington with the ball Core-Loct® from 150 gr. The otherwise lively recoil of the 7 mm Rem is very well dissipated by the muzzle brake. Mag. And contained the acoustic annoyance in the narrow range of the polygon. The quotation of both the speargun and the optics are interesting with respect to the construction criteria, materials and performance: definitely worth thinking about.
