The study dedicated to pre-nuptial migration of the teal performed via satellite telemetry was published on the international ornithological journal Ibis, the most important at European level. The analysis, whose full title is "Spring migratory routes and stopover duration of satellite-tracked Eurasian Teals Anas crecca wintering in Italy", Was curated by various authors and have always believed in its success theACMA (Association of Aquatic Migrant Hunters) and the national Federcaccia.
Thanks to the study, the migratory strategies of the females of this species have been studied in depth, as well as their speed of movement and the dates of departure, fundamental for change the Key Concepts. Among the results of the project there is, for example, the prolonged stop of the teals that left our country before reach the breeding grounds. These "breaks" can last up to 85 days, but what exactly is the reason? According to the researchers, it is the need to look for new food, primarily for the specimens that come from Venice lagoon.
Pre-nuptial migration is indicated between February 15 and April 2, with the median date being March 15. The numbers are therefore not the same as the Key Concepts, according to which the departure of the species occurs in the third decade of January. Other results concern migratory differences: the study will also continue in the coming months and two other species will be involved, namely the codon , gadwall.
