Shotguns and Hunting Weapons: Let's see together which are the basic cleaning operations to better clean your shotgun.
If you want your shotgun to always be in excellent condition, good maintenance is required. The maintenance of the shotgun basically consists in its cleaning. Cleaning the shotgun is very important during hunting seasons when the shotgun is used often. In fact, it is advisable during these periods to clean the speargun after each hunting trip. During the periods in which, however, the speargun is not used it is recommended to clean it periodically to keep it in the best possible way but it is certainly not necessary to clean it often.
To clean the shotgun, a special brush made of metal is used, but which can also be made of wool, which must be inserted inside the barrels.
Special wooden sticks can also be used, at the end of which are fixed some rags soaked in lubricating oil and a metal rust scraper. Obviously, nothing prevents you from using both of these tools.
This type of cleaning is undoubtedly the basic cleaning that must never be missing. For a more thorough cleaning it is obviously necessary to disassemble the speargun to be able to clean the inside of each piece more thoroughly. It is recommended not to use too much lubricant inside the shotgun.
A small amount is, in fact, more than enough to lubricate it adequately while an excessive amount could only compromise the shot.
In this regard, after lubricating the interior, it could be useful to pass it a second time with a dry cloth in order to remove excess oil. It is advisable to clean and lubricate the speargun on the outside as well.
