FACE (The European Federation for Hunting and Conservation) together with its members - 37 national hunting associations across Europe - launched The European Hunters' Campaign in an online press conference which can be viewed at this internet address: https://www.facebook.com/watch/live/? ref = watch_permalink & v = 1230985997730271
FACE has activated a platform for this campaign (www.SignForHunting.com in English, French and German, the languages officially used by the European Commission) to invite the main European political institutions to "work with hunters" to hunting and conservation.
80% of the laws and regulations affecting hunting and conservation come from Brussels.
On the platform, the requests that European hunters make to the institutions to address the necessary change on key topics relating to hunting and conservation are set out in 9 points.
Here they are:
We want a Europe rich in biodiversity for all.
We want nature policies to incentivize conservation work done by hunters, even in protected areas.
We want EU nature laws to pursue outcomes for ecosystems and habitats for small game, especially wetlands and farmland.
We want a more objective and evidence-based approach to hunting, including regional hunting traditions.
We want accurate assessments of large carnivore populations based on appropriate criteria and a procedure for modifying their list under the Habitats Directive.
We want hunters to be recognized as part of the nature conservation solution, not as a problem.
We want hunting laws and decisions to be fair and offer clear benefits, respecting the principles of subsidiarity and proportionality.
We want our cultural heritage to be respected, which is vital for the future of a diverse Europe and for enriching the lives of individual citizens.
We want Brussels to take this agenda internationally because the EU has a strong global influence.
The campaign responds to the growing number of problems that for the 7 million European hunters come from the politics of Brussels. It aims to highlight and solve these problems, move away from a tendency to find only flaws in hunting and recognize its value for biodiversity and the union of cultures across Europe.
Speaking at the campaign presentation, FACE President Torbjörn Larsson said: “We are facing unprecedented challenges, especially with proposals drawn up behind closed doors for European hunters. This campaign is a significant step forward in inviting Brussels policy makers to change course and work with us! ”.
During the press conference it was highlighted that many international NGOs often campaign on political issues, but this is the first of its kind for European hunters.
An outward-facing campaign allows hunters to speak and be heard.
