Caccia: Sisto Dati, vice president of Libera Caccia, replies to Buconi di Federcaccia.
"Its national president must be too busy enjoying the holidays to realize that yet another attack on hunters full of prejudices and without technical scientific foundations is underway by the usual incompetent animalists. so much so, the possibility of retorting, unfortunately, has instead limited itself to shooting cheap banalities and good speeches for all seasons without a shred of concrete proposals. Indeed, he went so far as to say that the increase in ungulates is the result of climate change! Perhaps, too attentive to his well-paid armchair, he did not realize that the good management model twenty-three years ago, when roe deer and wild boar were species to be protected, is no longer applicable today. It is good to know that in my region, Tuscany, culling plans, at best, affect less than 15% of a population of ungulates which has an annual increase of over 30-35%. The hunters did what was required of them respecting every rule, regulation and directive imposed. But now the situation has objectively changed, the rules have not. We still have the same regulations and possibilities as over 20 years ago. In the vain hope that the national law will change, we must field workable proposals and not shout at the moon. Personally I'm doing it as always putting my face and concrete ideas.
As a Doc wild boar hunter, I feel I can make proposals for the solution of the problem, both from a practical and a regulatory point of view.
There are three methods of intervention possible today in the various Italian regions:
1) wild boar driven hunt during the hunting season
2) the selection hunt for wild boar started in some provinces
3) extraordinary control operations authorized by the Provinces in the presence of hunting guards
The model currently in force in Italy is no longer in step with the times, this must change, it is no longer tolerable that only the ATC are to pay the damages of the ungulates with the money of all the hunters by removing resources intended to improve the habitat for the reproduction of sedentary game and to accommodate the migratory one, therefore it would be advisable: 1- To make the teams more responsible by making them participate also in the management of the areas adjacent to those assigned to them; ensure that all participants in the joke are counted to reach the minimum number of eighteen; if a team does not reach the assigned abatement plan, to be able to intervene with abatement abatement in a containment regime.
2- It is an additional tool that must be strengthened and applied throughout the territory not managed or poorly managed by the wild boar teams, in a uniform and continuous manner, but in itself useless to affect the large numbers we are talking about. It will become a valuable tool when populations are restored to an acceptable consistency.
3- It's a blunt weapon. This type of intervention, which is required for problems of damage to agricultural crops and to ensure public safety, is often implemented in inadequate ways. The Ispra, the technical-scientific body of the Ministry of the Environment, with absurd limitations and without practical foundation, determines its failure, becoming directly responsible for the sometimes fatal consequences. For this reason, for many years, we have been asking for the closure of this useless institution and the creation of regional study centers that can respond quickly and with in-depth knowledge of the territory to extraordinary requests for intervention. I ask that the management of the number of ungulates be applied to the whole territory, including that which is forbidden to hunting. It is useless for hunters to try to restore the density of wild boars in the huntable territory to a sustainable number when there are inexhaustible reservoirs within the hunting prohibitions. If a wild boar alarm occurs in a given area, prohibition, park or huntable area, I propose that the Mayor or the Province or the Region can, through the ATC, intervene within 24 hours in the way that, for the wild boar, has always offered the best results in terms of killing, driven hunts. instrument present in many Italian regions, ie regional wildlife observatories. In Tuscany this role is carried out by Cirsemaf which is an inter-university center that groups together 10 Italian universities and to which it is possible to contact for requests and technical advice.
The jokes must obviously be reported to citizens and supervised / coordinated by the police (urban districts, provincial police, Carabinieri, State Police ect etc.) and carried out in the manner and in the times that guarantee both the maximum safety of those who participate. or whoever is in the immediate vicinity, is the achievement of the result, that is to solve the problem.
We will carry out these proposals in every decision-making forum, both locally and nationally. Especially in my region where we are on the eve of the complete review of hunting regulations in the face of the transfer of competences from the Provinces to the Regions. We need to redesign a model that once again brings Tuscany to the fore in wildlife management as it has been for many years, an example to follow and imitate.
With the recipes of self-styled friends of animals you do not go anywhere, indeed certain animals without control become "killers" generating in the public opinion the false idea that they only want to kill, while instead they are only following their own wild instincts. The mismanagement by the responsible institutions and animal rights activists in Italian parks kill people, not animals!
We are called Libera Caccia and, as you can read, ours are serious and responsible proposals and, above all, they tackle the problem. The ungulate emergency cannot and must not become a pretext that allows some associations to profit from it, we will also monitor this ”.
