The session of catch to snipe for the application of satellite transmitters in order to monitor their movements. The long procrastination of adverse weather conditions and the consequent high level of water within the Marshes of Fucecchio they have postponed the catches and the possibility to put GPS devices for about two months. The project, conducted in collaboration with the Faculty of Biology of the University of Pisa, mainly aims at knowledge of the main wintering areas and the main migration routes.
Once the animals have been captured with the appropriate mist-net nets, they are marked with metal rings and those with suitable weight (they must be fit enough) are equipped with a transmitter. In case of future findings, it is therefore essential to always contact the Department of Biology of the University of Pisa ([email protected]) or ACMA ([email protected]). This year it was planned to apply three GPS. Therefore, among the seven snipe captured on the occasion, the three most suitable were selected taking into account weight, age and gender.
We are particularly pleased to inform you that at the moment all three snipe signal well and are still in Italy. We also want to thank in particular the CCT - Confederation of Tuscan Hunters for the economic and moral support given to the project as well as for the collaboration it gave us in catching snipe at the ringing center of Porto allo Stillo which they financed.
