Pragmatic approach
Let's reach an agreement at the Trilogues on the EU directive for the soil monitoring and listen to the requests of the agricultural world that immediately supported the urgency of a European law, ensuring, among other things, that the drafting of the text has that pragmatic and responsible approach that is typical of those who work every day also safeguarding the environment and the territory. This is what the national president of Cia-Agricoltori Italiani, Cristiano Fini, says. He is pushing for an agreement that also accepts the requests put forward by the Confederation, in these that are the last hours of negotiations.
A major effort
According to Cia, in fact, a significant effort has been made to find convergence on the EU Commission's proposal and to make it as responsive as possible to the objective of global sustainability, given the significant compromise for agriculture and the hydrogeological stability of the land. The Confederation has worked hard, in particular for the article on land consumption, since ensuring the fertility of the fields means protecting farmers' income and the vitality of internal areas, fighting their abandonment.
Agricultural productions
"We need a clear, concrete and streamlined instrument. On the value of land for agricultural production, especially in rural communities - comments Fini - there is no room for negotiation. Europe must therefore do its part and it will also be useful to Italy, still without a law on the matter" (source: CIA).
