Felling data
We report an excerpt from the latest Cacciapensieri of the Provincial Hunting Federation of Brescia: “The data on the killing of migratory game derived from the reading of hunting permits for the period 2017/2022 and communicated to MASE and ISPRA have been made known. On song thrush, the migratory species most taken by Lombardy's hide hunters, the killing data for our region in the six years are an average of one million heads per year, which however must be compared to the estimated 75/120 million adult heads to which must be added at least the same number of young ones born every year and with an overall increasing population".
Wild population size
“So all in all a small extraction if compared to the size of the wild population, and that extractions considered to be significant correspond to more than significant and healthy populations”.
The average incidence of hunting
“A recent study presented at the XXI National Congress of Ornithology in September 2023 demonstrated that the average impact of hunting on migratory bird populations is 1,84% of estimated numbers”.
