Steiner has chosen Italy for the international launch of the two new products, specifically the long-distance shooting range ASD Tiro Sportivo Terranova Bracciolini in the province of Arezzo. On 12 and 13 October, a selection of gunsmiths from different regions of Italy took part in a training course and had the opportunity to try the two optics, a perfect combination of mechanical accuracy and electronic precision. Starting from the innovative binoculars “Steiner eRanger LRF 10×42”, combines the renowned optical quality with an intelligent rangefinder, with a range of 3.000 meters, which in addition to measuring the distance also calculates the angle of the site, indicating it in degrees or, more useful, directly returning the compensated distance.
The new feature is that, through the app “Steiner Connect 2”, you get the measured point allowing you to easily locate the position where the target is telemetered. By interfacing with Google Maps it detects, on the map, the shooting point, not wanting to use the map, an arrow displayed on the phone display will quickly take you to the shot animal. This function is particularly useful for searching for game in tall grass or in any case in thick vegetation, we have all experienced the bad feeling of not finding the dead animal and managing to recover it only after several laps far and wide, with the new eRanger LRF this problem is solved once and for all. Last but not least is the possibility of Interfacing the Binoculars with the eRanger 8 Spotting Scope, so as to display the measured distance directly on the telescope display.
The telescope “Steiner eRanger8” in the versions 2-16 × 50 e 3-24 × 56, combines the quality of the mechanical turret with the practicality of electronics. This innovative optic looks like a normal riflescope, with a 34 mm tube, a cockpit on the eyepiece for various adjustments and a generously sized ballistic turret. When we look inside we discover a new world, a display positioned in the upper area of the reticle where a level allows the verification of any inclination of the weapon, near the icon of a binocular appears, if interfaced, the last distance measured by the Steiner eRanger LRF and at the bottom, manually rotating the turret appears the shooting distance that can also be detected with a normal rangefinder and set manually via the ballistic turret. This system allows use even in case of low batteries, it will be sufficient to memorize the clicks necessary for collimation at the different distances.
But that's not all, inside the telescope there is a barometric station that detects the atmospheric pressure, the temperature, in this way the ballistic curve will be corrected, so you can calibrate the telescope in the plains and use it in the mountains without having to modify its parameters.
During the calibration phase we will enter all the ballistic data of the ammunition used via the app “Steiner Connect 2”, the same one that allows the interface with the eRanger LRF binoculars. During the presentation, several rifles from the Beretta group were used, Sako TRG and S20, Beretta BRX1, Tikka UPR and T3x Tac A1, Benelli Lupo and Lupo HPR, Franchi Orizon, all in 6,5 Creedmoor caliber. With all of them we appreciated the speed of the distance change by shooting at gongs positioned at 200, 310, 420 and 550 meters, thanks to the extreme precision of the weapon-scope system we always heard the sound of the gongs.
During the test we delighted ourselves with the delicacies of the Franchi Food Academy, venison ham, wild boar meatballs and other game prepared by Red Irises, mind and soul of the Franchi Food Academy.
The whole thing ended with a challenge between the gunsmiths present, the first three were awarded the “Kings Of Ballistics” plaques and Burris optics.
