The Hunt pays the price for poaching idiots. The M5S Lombardia filed yesterday (November 7, ed) an urgent motion, asking for it to be discussed in the Regional Council during today's meeting, containing a proposal to combat poaching, also through "the suspension of the exercise ofhunting activity in the areas falling within the municipalities of Val Trompia, Val Camonica and Val Sabbia, in the province of Brescia ”.
For Giampietro Maccabiani, regional councilor of M5S Lombardia: “In the Brescia valleys, poaching has gone beyond all limits. The killing of a very rare specimen of Hermit Ibis it's just the tip of the iceberg. In a month, the NOA (Nucleo Operativo Antipoacconaggio) of the forestry reported almost a hundred crimes committed mostly by holders of hunting licenses, 750 live birds were found in a birdhouse in Sarezzo, mainly larks but also frosoni, brambles and finches without identification rings and two hunters respectively were found with 100 and 250 robins.
It is time to end it: the Lombardy Region has the duty to take serious and timely measures to limit as much as possible the phenomena of poaching and to protect theBirdlife. There is a real risk of incurring the opening of European infringements against all citizens ”.
"Precisely for this reason - continues Maccabiani - we ask for a stop to hunting in Val Trompia, Valle Camonica and Val Sabbia, the identification of protection areas along the avifauna migration routes in the territory of the province of Brescia and more men and vehicles of the State Forestry Corps in the province. Ours is not a no to hunting, it is a no to poaching, but it is time to take even severe measures. To hunters and hunting associations that respect the rules and that first of all pay for poaching, go our invitation to react, to collaborate with the police to eliminate this criminal phenomenon from their ranks. Killing protected species indiscriminately is not hunting, it is irreparable damage to the environment and, consequently, to the whole community and to future generations ”.
