The Z8i range has 5 models among which the 2,3-18 × 56 P is the most all-rounder. The magnifications in question make it suitable for various hunting conditions, even at long distances. The 56 mm diameter of the front lens allows the optics to be used even in low light situations such as twilight. The high definition lenses give razor-sharp images even in difficult situations.
The 30 mm tube and low weight make the scope easily adaptable to any hunting weapon. Like the other models, the Z8i 2,3-18 × 56 P is also offered in a double version: the SR version with rail with the relative advantages in mounting stability and the L version with smooth tube for use with normal rings.
On the eyepiece we find the ring for the reticle focus and further on the ring for the variation of the magnifications. The illuminated reticle is managed by the control located immediately behind the magnification ring. We have a daytime and a night mode available, each of which has 32 different light intensities. The operation of the lighting is guaranteed by a 3V battery, type CR2032, located in the parallax turret.
There are 4 reticles available: the BRX-I, the 4A-300-I, the 4W-I and the classic 4A-I. They are all located on the second focal plane and have an illuminated central dot. The central part of the optic has three turrets. One for parallax adjustment (from 50 meters to infinity), one for elevation adjustment and one for drift.
Such a scope cannot do without a ballistic turret. The Austrian company offers as an accessory the flexible ballistic turret (BTF) adaptable to both the turret of the elevation and that of the drift. As for the use as an upper turret, the BTF has a graduated ring with the clicks imprinted. Furthermore, on the basis of the data provided by the ballistics program, it is possible to insert 4 reference rings for the desired distances.
Thanks to the availability of Swarovski Optik Italia we had the opportunity to test one of the top models of the range, the Z8i 2,3-18 × 56 PL with 4A-I reticle. We tested the scope on a Blaser R8 Professional Success rifle in 7 × 64 Brenneke caliber with Hornady Superformance International commercial ammunition with 140 gr GMX bullet.
For assembly and calibration we relied on the expertise of our friend Riccardo Giuliani, owner of the Apaches Armory, one of the most renowned armories in southern Italy and beyond.
Since the optic has a smooth tube for use with normal rings (L version), we have chosen the quick release attachments from Contessa srl, made in Italy attachments with exceptional performance.
The model in question is SIMPLE BLACK STD of the BLS line, light attack and equipped with the four points of contact and clamping with the weapon in hardened steel, which ensure absolute calibration between one release and another.
We had the opportunity to use the optics to hunt roe deer in various atmospheric and light situations. The optic meets all expectations, revealing itself to be versatile and performing. They do not mind the ergonomics of the optics and the controls of the reticle lighting system.
The lenses deliver sharp images even in low light conditions. The ballistic turret is valid and the reticle is appreciated especially for long distances.
