The sudden decision
The most classic of bolts from the blue: Vincent Caputo, extraordinary commissioner for the swine fever emergency, resigned from his position in the last few hours. Caputo had held this role since December 2022, therefore for about a year and a half, and at the time of his appointment he had promised to resolve the problem within three years.
Last days as commissioner
Caputo's words explain the reason for this backtracking: "I decided to leave the position because I am already too overwhelmed with commitments with my role as director of the Experimental Zooprophylactic Institute of Marche and Umbria, a national reference center for swine fever. A position, that of commissioner, which proved to be too demanding. I will remain in office until July 31st."
Caputo's budget
Caputo also wanted to vindicate the results obtained in these 19 months: “Let's say that we have laid the foundations for a construction site that I hope can improve even further in the future. There are areas of the territory affected by the ASF that have proven to be a model in containment, such as Alessandria, and others that still need to be better organized".
