Restriction areas
«It is difficult, indeed impossible, to move on to the facts regarding the containment of African swine fever. In the restriction zones of Piacenza we are firm: ordinance no. 5/2023 of the Extraordinary Commissioner to the PSA cannot be applied because the necessary equipment is missing". This is supported by Confagricoltura Emilia Romagna which in a letter addressed to the Region formulates precise requests for intervention in order to protect the regional pig heritage.
Inability to proceed
«The Territorial Hunting-ATC Areas complain about the impossibility of proceeding with the killing of wild boars because there are no processing plants in zones I and II as provided for in the ordinance (art. 3 paragraph ix. and 4 paragraph iv.) , and above all they point out - we read in the letter - the lack of equipment such as cold rooms for the conservation of carcasses as expressly indicated in Annex 1". It must also be said that it is up to the Regional Health Service to make up for these structural inefficiencies.
The example of neighboring regions
Therefore Confagricoltura Emilia Romagna requests the timely intervention of the competent local authorities-ACL so that the territory is equipped with the equipment necessary to start capture operations for the depopulation of wild boars, pursuant to the ordinance. He also hopes for the possible definition of agreements with companies specialized in the disposal of carcasses. It then considers it essential to follow the example of the neighboring regions, Piedmont and Lombardy, which have already commissioned teams of professionals for the abatement activity, obtaining very positive results in critical areas, especially in the Pavia area. «Once the infection containment system is fully operational – concludes the agricultural organization – the role of the ATC managers will be fundamental, their action to complete the objectives of the Plan drawn up by the Extraordinary Commissioner of the PSA» (source : Confagricoltura).
