Restriction removed
The President of the Lazio Region, Francesco Rocca and the Councillor for Agriculture, Hunting and Budget of the Lazio Region, Giancarlo Righini, have examined the issue relating to the PSA (African Swine Fever): “It is with great satisfaction that we learn of the favorable opinion of the European Standing Committee on the request to remove Lazio from the restriction zone for African Swine Fever. A decision that fills us with pride, also considering that we are among the first in Italy to achieve this result”.
The most affected areas
"In fact, the enormous work carried out by the regional administration, since its establishment, for the eradication of the disease that has particularly affected the territory of Rome and some areas of its Province, delimited as a red zone due to the high number of infected animals, has been recognized. My thanks go in particular to the extraordinary commissioner for PSA, Giovanni Filippini, to his predecessor, Vincenzo Caputo, to the extraordinary commissioner of the Experimental Zooprophylactic Institute of Lazio and Tuscany Stefano Palomba and to the regional directorates involved who worked hard to ensure that the disease was eradicated and that it did not spread further, creating further damage to companies in the agro-livestock sector".
Depopulation activities
"The eradication of ASF, in fact, will guarantee the maintenance of the food chain with obvious advantages in terms of export and consumption of typical products of the Lazio region of the pig chain. The achievement of this important milestone gives us a further incentive to continue with surveillance and prevention activities aimed at preventing a reappearance of the virus, also through the depopulation of the wild boar species, which continues to afflict our territory by destroying crops and putting agricultural production at risk".
