The meeting between the Extraordinary Commissioner for African Swine Fever, Vincenzo Caputo, and the representatives of the national, regional and provincial parks of the Basilicata Region took place yesterday Basilicata. The need for coordinated actions
Councilor Latronico, bringing greetings from the other members of the regional government involved in the African swine fever emergency, Francesco Fanelli and Alessandro Galella, highlighted the work carried out by the Region, with a plan for the selective culling of the wild boar species carried out in the months past, i.e. before the spread of the viral infection affecting pigs. “Basilicata – he said – is barely touched by the phenomenon, but we must initiate coordinated contrast actions to control the wild boar population which, in numerical terms, tends to explode. The technical and operational support of Commissioner Caputo - he continued - becomes fundamental for the various subjects in the field, including the representatives of the Lucanian parks who, in this affair, find themselves playing a decisive role ". Latronico also recalled that "through the sole contracting station, the institution has launched a tender which provides for the disbursement of important economic resources to manage the emergency which continues to create alarm for the safety of citizens, the biodiversity that we have the duty to safeguard, but also for the repercussions that a health crisis would have above all on livestock farms".
Political and technical synergy
The Extraordinary Commissioner appreciated the work that Basilicata is carrying out, emphasizing how the political and technical synergy between the Departments of the Environment, Agriculture and Health is in line with the spirit of the ordinance which is about to be issued to combat the phenomenon and which real territorial operational groups. “The new decree-law desired by the Italian government – said Caputo – requires us to put in place strategies for the thinning out and containment of the wild boar species which has an extremely important role in the spread of the disease. All to safeguard the environment and the pig sector which in many Italian regions represents a true excellence and affects the national GDP”. (Source AGR BASILICATA)
