New appointment
Vincenzo Caputo was appointed new extraordinary commissioner for the African swine fever. Caputo took over yesterday from Angelo Ferrari, director of the Zooprophylactic Institute of Turin. Caputo, 62, has a degree in veterinary medicine and was also a professor at the Federico II University of Naples.
The number of positive cases
Since 2021 he has been director of the Experimental Zooprophylactic Institute of the Marche and Umbria, and will now also hold the position of regional commissioner. According to the latest update from the Istituto Zooprafilattico, the number of positive cases between Piedmont and Liguria has risen to 387.
The infected area
The increase in the discovery of virus-positive carcasses beyond the area delimited by the fence has also led to the extension of the infected area to include some municipalities in the province of Asti and Emilia Romagna (source: Federcaccia)
