Meeting between the parties
A meeting to bring the requests of Pavia farmers affected by thePsa emergency directly to the Government. This is what took place this morning at Palazzo Coldiretti in Pavia between the leaders of the most important Pavia agricultural organization and the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry Patrizio La Pietra. The meeting was also attended by the Regional Councilor Claudio Mangiarotti and a delegation of farmers from Pavia, together with the President of Coldiretti Pavia Silvia Garavaglia.
Spread of the virus
“Thanks to this meeting we brought the demands of the Pavia pig farmers directly to the Government, which we thank in the person of Undersecretary La Pietra for his closeness to our requests – explains Silvia Garavaglia, President of Coldiretti Pavia – Many companies in our territory, in fact, are experiencing still a very difficult situation today, after having already suffered extensive damage in recent months to limit the spread of African swine fever. The sacrifices made by the farmers of Pavia have given positive results, as demonstrated by the fact that the disease has no longer manifested itself on the farms for months. But these sacrifices must be rewarded quickly: agricultural companies cannot wait any longer."
Refreshments and loss of income
From the suspension of mortgages to subsidized loans for agricultural companies, including compensation to compensate for lost income and up to extraordinary redundancy payments: these are the measures requested by Coldiretti from Undersecretary La Pietra to protect a sector that has been severely tested. “To maintain the excellence of the pig sector, targeted and urgent measures are needed, as well as serious supervision of the speculation that is taking place to the detriment of agricultural companies – underlines the President of Coldiretti Pavia – We need responsibility for the entire supply chain: it is no longer It is acceptable that companies have difficulty marketing the meat of their pigs, which is instead safe and can be used for all delicatessen channels both in Italy and abroad" (source: Coldiretti Pavia).
