Ordinance of May 19
After the Ordinance n. 1 dated 19/05/2023 by Commissioner Occhiuto, the regional hunting associations of the Calabria recognized (FEDERCACCIA, ANLC, ENALCACCIA, ARCICACCIA, ANUU, ITALCACCIA, EPS), intervene again on the PSA issue, noting an extremely bureaucratic approach by the Region. The ordinance, the Public Authorities point out, tends almost exclusively to the tout court prohibition of potentially impacting activities, rather than to a rapid and concrete resolution of the problem and this, evidently, with serious repercussions on the socio-economic fabric of our territory. "We would have expected a crisis management document adhering to the canons of the national ordinance (n. 2 of 20 April 2023), issued by the Extraordinary Commissioner Caputo who, with farsightedness, addresses the emergency from a perspective of synergy with the stakeholders , given the enormous amount and complexity of the interventions that will have to be carried out to stem the emergency” the representatives of the hunting associations declare in unison.
Depopulation of wild boars
It needs speed. The interventions to be put in place require the use of a high "human capital" and hunters can make the difference: 1°) in the search for carcasses, 2°) in supporting the health institutions responsible for emergency management, as well as 3°) in the delicate activities of depopulation of wild boars. The strong discrepancy with the aforementioned national ordinance is not understood and the Commissioner ad acta Occhiuto is invited to review the position regarding the total ban on hunting in the 26 municipalities, moreover in the closed hunting season, missing more than three months before the opening . It should be emphasized that this decision goes in the opposite direction to the contents of the ordinance of the National Commissioner who, in the red zone (infected zone and part II restricted zone) allows other forms of non-collective hunting of species other than wild boar.
An urgent summons
The need for an urgent confrontation between regional institutions, the Extraordinary Commissioner and trade associations is reiterated since it is essential to build the best conditions for "networking", each for their own part. It is also urgent to convene an assembly in which to outline the concrete actions to be implemented in the field in order to avert the worsening of the emergency, reiterating from now on the ready availability of the hunting world to give its constructive contribution in terms of competence, men and means. It should be noted that what matters most at the moment is the safeguarding of the agro-food and pig farming sector, in defense of companies in an area that is already severely in crisis. "We therefore ask for synergy and urgent and concrete actions, we also invite the Commissioner Occhiuto, Assessor Gallo and his managers to look carefully at the Piedmontese and Ligurian experience where, due to an excessively bureaucratic initial approach, precious time was lost to stem the virus with serious repercussions on the territory, Calabria can he must treasure those experiences to become a model to imitate. Only with the contribution of all the players can this battle be won” conclude the regional representatives (source: FIDC).
