The intervention of councilor Beduschi
The Councilor for Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forests of the Lombardy Region, Alessandro Beduschi, intervenes in the debate on ASF-African swine fever, at the center of a motion voted unanimously by the Regional Council on Tuesday 4 July. “The entire Regional Council – Councilor Beduschi said – has given proof of maturity, sharing the theme of African swine fever in a constructive way. He did so by putting proposals before partisan controversies and stripping himself of affiliations to make the defense of Lombard farms prevail. And thus playing part of our history and our identity”.
Additional economic resources
In reaffirming the centrality of the Lombard pig production chain, with over 4,5 million heads in more than 2700 companies and 1,2 billion euros in economic value, councilor Beduschi announces that, in addition to the 2,2 million euro tender activated from Tuesday 4 July for the purchase of protective fences from wild boars, vectors of the virus, the Giunta is working to find additional resources. Funds to be concentrated above all in the provinces of Brescia, Cremona and Mantua. That is, territories currently immune from contagion but in which the majority of farms are concentrated.
Control activity
“Furthermore – concludes commissioner Beduschi – together with the councilor for Welfare, Guido Bertolaso, whom I thank for reiterating in the classroom all the efforts made by the Region on this crucial match, we sent a letter to Ministers Lollobrigida and Schillaci. To request, among other things, that support for ASF control activities can also be guaranteed by the Armed Forces at a national level. This, in particular, in the active surveillance and carcass search activities and mainly in the II and I restriction zones in the province of Pavia“ (source: Lombardy Region).
