The wild boars tested positive
Starting from the end of April 2022, some dead or dying wild boars were found in the northern area of Rome. ASF virus. Almost all the individuals were found in the Insugherata Nature Reserve, inside the Grande Raccordo Anulare.
Another suspicious individual
Only a few cases were found to be outside the GRA At the end of May, an additional virus positive individual was found in the province of Rieti, in the Municipality of Borgo Velino, but the connection with the outbreak in the Rome area is not proven.
The Insugherata Reserve
The Reserve we are talking about is nothing more than a protected natural area located between the Via Trionfale and the Via Cassia, occupying a total area of 740 hectares. Its establishment dates back to a quarter of a century ago, to be precise 1997, a real "naturalistic corridor" between the urbanized area in the northern part of the capital and the Veio-Cesano naturalistic system.
