It was approved in Cabinet yesterday morning, on the proposal of Ministers Patuanelli and Speranza, the decree law aimed at halting the spread of African swine fever. The purpose of the decree is to preserve the safeguarding of the animal health, the protection of the national and European Union pig herds and, last but not least, to safeguard exports, the national production system and the related supply chain.
The provision provides for the implementation, within 30 days of its entry into force, of the Regional Plans of urgent interventions for the management, control and eradication of the ASF, with the verification of the consistency of the wild boar species in the provincial territory and the interventions envisaged for the purpose of containing the epidemic. An extraordinary Commissioner has been appointed with tasks of coordination and monitoring of the measures implemented using the bodies of National Health Service and the competent offices of Ministries, Regions, Provinces, Municipalities and Police Forces.
Obligation for those who find injured or deceased wild boar specimens in the context of implementation of regional plans o in the performance of hunting or woodland activities, cultivation of agricultural land or involved in an accident involving wild boars, to report the discovery immediately to the veterinary service of the ASL competent for the territory (source: Hunting Federation).
