“Swine fever requires timely interventions also of infrastructural value. The discovery of an infected wild boar a Roma, in a no-hunting area - from which they must be immediately displaced suspected of ecoterrorism - confirms the possibility that the virus could affect every part of the country. For this reason it is necessary that the affected areas be delimited alongside the emergency veterinary preventive measures with fences that prevent wild boars from moving freely, as proposed by the Technical Committee.
In other parts of Europe this is already happening and has been successfully applied. In the case of Rome this operation would be facilitated by the fact that the infected boar was found inside the Grande Raccordo Anular ring roadand, where there are already large tracts of fenced land. It's about completing the work. As already happened in the North of Italy, Federcaccia has given the full availability of its volunteer guards, operators and its members for the garrison of the territory, for the monitoring and to assist the authorities in charge of managing the wild boar species.
Before the specific interest, the general interest of the country is important for us, both to protect public health and on the production and economy front". Thus the national President Federcaccia Massimo Buconi commented on the case of African swine fever (ASF) in Rome (source: Hunting Federation).
