The most recent outbreaks
With regard to the news on the recent outbreaks of African swine fever that have affected some farms in the province of Pavia, the level of attention is very high and the structures of the regional veterinary service are working to constantly monitor the situation. In the area within 10 km of the farms, where positivity to PSA, all movements of pigs, both incoming and outgoing, are prohibited, and throughout the rest of the Pavia and Lombardy area, these are subject to the favorable outcome of clinical visits and sampling of biological material. So Alessandro Beduschi, regional councilor for agriculture, food sovereignty and forests: "We need to speak clearly because the rules are just as clear: no containment measure can be truly effective if, as occurred in the case encountered last Saturday in Zinasco (PV ), irresponsible behavior and lack of communication to the health authorities prevent timely intervention, risking endangering the entire regional pig sector".
The next meetings
In the meantime, the ATS of Pavia has launched wide-ranging virus control and containment procedures on the case, collaborating with the judicial authorities to establish the responsibilities of the event and evaluate any legal actions. Tomorrow a further meeting will be held between the ATS of Pavia, the Department of Welfare and the Department of Agriculture with the national emergency commissioner Vincenzo Caputo, to whom the Lombardy Region will ask for all the technical and logistical support from the Government, also involving the Ministry of Defense and Civil Protection.
Devastating effects
"In these days - concludes Beduschi - a joint action will be carried out with the main sector associations precisely so that they sensitize operators to scrupulously follow all the precautionary rules against a virus which, although not representing any danger to man , has a very high diffusion capacity and devastating effects on farms. Furthermore, we are committed to finding new resources to be allocated to biosecurity and wild boar containment interventions to limit the spread of ASF as much as possible. From this point of view, even the opposition must know that we are acting in the common interest of a supply chain that belongs to everyone" (source: Lombardy Region).
