The countdown for the end of the embargo has begun pork. In 148 days (December 15), as announced by the President of the Region, Christian Solinas, and by Undersecretary for Health, Andrea Costa, Brussels should vote to end the restrictions that since November 2011 have prevented the export of pork beyond the Sardinian borders (fresh and long-seasoned) and obviously live animals. An embargo that at that point lasted 4.071 days, 11 long years that reduced an entire supply chain to a minimum, costing farmers many sacrifices, in economic terms and beyond.
"Thanks to hard and team work, Sardinia today, at a time when swine fever is spreading to various regions of the Peninsula - says the president of Coldiretti Sardegna, Battista Cualbu -, represents a model. In over 40 years of swine fever he has never exported the virus, and in recent years, he has straddled the last two legislatures, has carried out serious work and a method that has led to the defeat, or in any case, to the control of swine fever ”.
"An applause certainly goes to the many breeders who, albeit in difficult conditions, have always believed in this sector - says the director of Coldiretti Sardegna, Luke Saba - and, even in the most difficult moments, they represented a model, with model farms in biosecurity which too often was given little weight and the right gratitude". "Their example and their experience are a fixed point - continues Battista Cualbu - and the hope is that the sector can finally recover and can finally represent us beyond the Sardinian borders" (Sardinia Post).
