"Depopulation, eradication, passive surveillance and risk analysis. These are the four main guidelines on which Veneto intends to focus for the management and control of African swine fever, also spread through too many wild animals present in the area. The Plan defined by Veneto region its objectives are the safeguarding of animal health and the protection of regional and national pig heritage ". TheRegional Councilor for Hunting returning to the theme of wild boars and the control of invasive species at the center of the new Regional Plan for Urgent Interventions (PRIU).
"The Plan is operational and updates knowledge both with respect to farmed animals that can suffer the disease, and with respect to the distribution and control interventions already performed on wild animals laying the foundations for determining the areas of intervention and the priorities to be undertaken - specifies the regional councilor -. The actions that we will implement reflect the needs of the areas most affected by the presence of wild boars, identified in a thematic cartography. Furthermore, we have identified the subjects involved with their respective roles and responsibilities regarding each action ". The large and detailed document was approved by Regional Council, on the proposal of the Councilor for Health, in consultation with the Councilor for hunting and can be downloaded in its entirety, in the Official Bulletin of the Veneto Region.
The activities planned by the Region are training and dissemination activities, surveillance of farms and animals in the wild, analysis of animals found dead (from investment or other), the numerical control of wild boars through a significant reduction in their number. The subjects involved are various. Among these, regional directorates, IZPS, ULLSS veterinary services, provincial police, managing bodies of parks and protected areas, Veneto agriculture, Avepa (source: Veneto region).
