The Official Gazette of Monday 4 July - informs Piedmont Confagriculture in a note - published the Ordinance of the Extraordinary Commissioner for the African swine fever which defines the eradication, control and prevention measures to be implemented to contain the spread of the disease in the wild and domestic. The ordinance - clarifies Confagricoltura Piemonte - presents more restrictive measures on biosecurity measures to be applied in breeding and breeding restrictions to family and semi-wild ones, especially in restricted areas.
In addition, the ordinance provides for more stringent measures for the containment of wildlife by applying selection hunting and methods of trapping and killing of wild boars as well as the construction of a physical barrier or strengthening of the physical barriers that may already be present in the infected area, or in any case in the natural or artificial crossing points in order to create a delimitation of the active circulation area of wild boars.
"In this regard - declares the president of Confagricoltura Piemonte Enrico Allasia - in the open Regional Council to be held in the coming weeks, convened at the request of Confagricoltura, we will ask an intensification of wildlife containment measures to proceed immediately with the killing of surplus wild boars. The emergency of African Swine Fever and the production problems caused by drought - adds Allasia - are putting in great difficulty in the primary sector: it is necessary to act urgently, intervening in every way to avoid compromising the seal of our pig sector "(source: Confagricoltura).
