Anyone interested can contact the committee's staff, indicating availability regarding dates and times and providing their e-mail address and telephone number. The volunteers will then be contacted in the short term to receive references and indications. This committee was created to respond to the imposition of limits on the holding of weapons that are part of category B7: with this abbreviation in Europe are classified semi-automatic firearms for civilian use resembling an automatic firearm.
The name of the committee takes its cue from a European directive, number 477 of 1991, relating to the control of the acquisition and possession of weapons. In a nutshell, this text establishes four categories of firearms based on their danger. Category A includes prohibited firearms, category B includes those subject to authorization, category C firearms subject to declaration and category D other firearms.
The directive does not cover commercial transfers of military weapons and ammunition, nor does it cover the acquisition and possession of weapons and ammunition by the armed forces and public services and by collectors and cultural and historical entities. In any case, the application of the Italian provisions on the carrying of firearms or on the rules of hunting and sport shooting is not affected.
Finally, the limits to which the committee refers are those included in a recent regulation, the Law 43 of 2015, containing urgent measures to combat terrorism, including international ones, as well as extension of the international missions of the Armed Forces and police, development cooperation initiatives and support for reconstruction processes and participation in the initiatives of international organizations for the consolidation of processes of peace and stabilization.
