Senate Judiciary Committee
The 5 Star Movement has decided to present a bill in the Senate which aims to ban the importation of hunting trophies as regards protected species. The text (DDL 822 of 2023) will have to be examined by the Justice Commission, but the opinions of other commissions will also be needed, specifically those on Constitutional Affairs, European Policies, Economy, Environment and Industry-Agriculture.
The law to be changed
The official presentation was curated by a five-star senator, Dolores Bevilacqua. As stated in the law, an attempt will be made to change Law 150 of 1992, containing "Discipline of crimes relating to the application in Italy of the convention on international trade in endangered animal and plant species". There are also other objectives to be achieved in this case.
Other forecasts
Specifically, the M5S would like to increase the penalties envisaged, including among the bans the import and export of hunting trophies, both processed or processed ones and raw ones. The trophy would then be confiscated and used for scientific or educational purposes if it was not destroyed.
