A few days ago the Abruzzo region approved the Resolution number 31 of 2019 which effectively made the extension of the wood pigeon hunt in this territory. The new deadline for the regional hunting calendar relating to 2018-2019 season will be that of 10 February next, even if some clarifications have to be made. There are exceptions concerning this extension, namely the venable areas that are part of the Sites of Community Interest (SIC) and Special Protection Areas (SPAs), areas where the wood pigeons will be collected until the original deadline (January 31 to be precise).
The extra ten days must also take into account the initial forecast of the calendar, according to which this activity takes place exclusively from stalking since the start of the year. The stalking just mentioned can be both fixed and temporary, but always without the help of dogs. Before animal rights activists and environmentalists rise up, it is necessary to specify what the Region has made clear on this extension.
In fact, on 6 November, the note was acquired with which theISPRA (Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research) has provided its favorable opinion on the postponement of the closure of the wood pigeon sampling, complete with appropriate reasons which are based on valid scientific data.
