I mouflons ofGiglio Island continue to be discussed, especially after the publication of a scientific study on these ungulates, used as a pretext by animal rights activists to try to block the eradication plan. We are talking about what appeared in the magazine “Diversity”, a research that has deepened the genetic heritage of the island species, discovering how its DNA is unique and rare. In the front row against killing there are the associations "Dog life" and "Network of free animal sanctuaries in Italy", according to which the study should review the project aimed at reducing the number of mouflons at the Giglio.
The research in question was carried out by some geneticists who are part of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart of Piacenza, the Commission for the survival of species of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (Iucn Ssc), the University of Sassari and the University of Siena, in collaboration with the Cabinet Vétérinaire Les Deux Iles Santa Maria Siché. Genetic uniqueness is considered a fundamental resource which was lost elsewhere and therefore should at least be preserved on the Tuscan island. A prompt reply is now awaited from thePark Authority, given that the associations mentioned above have asked in no uncertain terms for the resignation of the president.
