Yesterday's vote
Yesterday, 12 July, the European Parliament voted in favor of the "Nature Restoration Law", the law on restoration of nature. The dossier now enters the so-called "trilogue", i.e. the stage of joint discussion between the Parliament, the Council and the European Commission. The text ended up dividing two of the main agricultural associations of our country, Coldiretti and CIA.
The position of Coldiretti
“The European Parliament saves agriculture in the application of the proposed regulation on the restoration of nature by voting for the exclusion of agricultural ecosystems as requested by Coldiretti at all levels”. This is what the president of Coldiretti Ettore Prandini affirms in expressing satisfaction with the approval of the amendments which also provide for the elimination of the objective of reducing the 10% of the productive agricultural area, they make the request to use funds external to the Common Agricultural Policy ( Pac) and introduce the reference to respect for the principle of reciprocity for imported products.
The clarification of the CIA
“There are still some regulatory gaps, the too many bureaucratic obstacles placed on individual countries and the postponed provisions on financing, but we take note of the attention paid by the EU Parliament to the demands of agriculture, excluding it, with the cancellation of article 9, from the implementation of the law on the restoration of nature”. This is how the national president of CIA-Agricoltori Italiani, Cristiano Fini, comments on the vote which, today, in Strasbourg rejected the rejection of the European Commission's proposal for a regulation, but included important amendments for the agricultural sector.
