The need for sharing
Friends of Scolopax and its president Alessandro Tedeschi they wanted to share a really interesting piece of news about a woodcock: “I feel the need to share. Worthy events, because they are unique and exceptional, produce emotional effects of rare effectiveness. Today I am recording the unprecedented milestone achieved by an Italian woodcock as part of the Scolopax Overland project. I am proud to share with you today that the Lescaut woodcock, equipped last December in the Tuscan San Rossore reserve, has reached and exceeded the limit of the Arctic Circle.".
Breeding site and range
"From the point of view of Italian research dedicated to woodcock, this milestone represents the completion of an imaginary flight path following a woodcock engaged in migration towards the breeding site and equally probable area where it was born.".
Future considerations
"Before this extraordinary event, we had recorded the journey of a woodcock from Calabria, Fabrizia, who also reached such northern latitudes in 2023. Future considerations and reflections on this matter will be part of a comprehensive study of the dynamics of migration and the more complex phenology of the species. Scientific research offers humans and the woodcock new, useful insights for understanding and managing the species. I fly with her.".
