As announced by the councilor for hunting of the Lombardy region, Fabio Rolfi, a resolution has been approved that will allow the hunting notwithstanding the starling during the hunting season which will open in September. From 2008 to 2017, the transfer caused damage to Lombardy crops for 787mila euros. In 2017 it caused € 60 in damage to vine, apple, blueberry and cherry crops. As explained by Rolfi, it was decided to go against ISPRA's opinion, which allowed the withdrawal with some limits that made and make hunting impossible.
The goal is to protect Lombard farmers and their work. The commissioner also underlined how they will no longer be accepted by ISPRA delle impositions that are not scientifically justified. It was then decided to re-launch the appeal to the Government and the Ministry of the Environment for a meeting with the regions that are pleading the request for hunting in derogation, so as to find a solution quickly. The transfer can be taken at a distance of no more than 500 meters from vineyards and apple orchards located on the regional territory.
It can be carried out by expressly authorized hunters resident in Lombardy and each hunter must note the items collected on the hunting card. The period will be the one included between 24 September and 31 October 2018, without forgetting the maximum number of 8 thousand animals that can be taken and a maximum limit of 600 hunters that can be authorized for control.
