A growing presence
Cormorants are a problem that is too little talked about. There are not a few regions that have to do with i damage related to these birds, as well testified by what happened in recent days in Valle d'Aosta. According to official statistics, there are 100-170 specimens found above all along the Dora Baltea, but also in the middle-lower valley. The negative consequences associated with them have prompted the Region to adopt the hard way.
The favorable opinion of ISPRA
Just recently, in fact, the junta gave the green light to the cormorant control plan, which will last a total of 4 years. Among other things, the plan was launched after the favorable opinion of ISPRA (Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research), a detail that should make the animal rights branch reflect before making the usual anti-hunting proclamations.
The words of the commissioner
Giuseppe Isabellon, regional councilor for Natural Resources, commented on the initiative as follows: “The Plan was drawn up with the aim of limiting the impact of the predation of cormorants, both through the possibility of intervening on their numerical consistency, and through disturbance and abatement actions which will be carried out only in areas of proven fish fauna value and carried out exclusively by the staff of the Valle d'Aosta Forestry Corps, in close collaboration with the competent regional offices".
