The images of a group of animal rights activists who a massarosa in the province of Lucca, they attempted to prevent the killing, by the police who intervened on the report of the ASL (Provincial Police, Municipal Police and Carabinieri Forestali), of a wild boar injured following a road accident. Even if in the end and not with little difficulty the Agents managed to complete their task, the controversy on the part of animal rights activists, who are now announcing their intention to present a complaint to the Lucca Public Prosecutor's Office, continues unabated.
The veterinary staff of the ASL
The slaughter of the animal, foreseen by law given the request of the ASL veterinary staff who intervened, and also on the basis of the current regulation for the containment of swine fever in that area, therefore fully met all the regulatory requirements of the case, not to mention the animal's agony, which is unnecessarily prolonged by this situation.
The solidarity of FIDC
"A serious act that I strongly condemn" said Marco Salvadori, Regional President of Federcaccia Toscana following the news. "Full solidarity and support to the Agents who intervened who had to manage a very delicate unfortunate situation", concluded Salvadori. We are certain that if the parties had been reversed, and that it had been hunters who interrupted a public service, the media fuss would have been gigantic and immediate. While waiting to know the determinations of the authorities, we will closely follow the developments of this matter, which will be carefully examined in the next few days by our legal staff. I hope that those in charge can definitively solve the problem concerning the disturbance of hunting by animal rights activists who ultimately do not defend the animals but only create scenarios to stand out. It is not by blocking hunting that they show interest in the animals but with restoring the environment, eliminating herbicides, not having coltrate immediately after cutting the wheat, sunflowers, and corn so that both the sedentary and the emigrating ones can find food. In this way animals are protected not with protests against hunting. I have been a hunter for 55 years and unfortunately I must say that game has decreased not because of the hunters but because the habitat no longer exists and because there are too many poisons, too many trades, few controls, too many poachers.
