Experimental plan
At the Centro Carni, the Municipality of Rome's project to transform the presence of wild boars in the city begins from problem to opportunity. The experimental plan was conceived by the Department of Productive Activities with the Department of Economic Development and Productive Activities to address the uncontrolled proliferation of wild boars that has created an emergency in many areas of the country, with serious consequences for public safety and the economy, including epidemiological risks and high costs for road accidents and damage to crops. Added to this is the threat of swine fever, which puts food safety and the pig industry at risk, making urgent prevention and control measures necessary.
The request for concrete solutions
“Faced with this challenge, as institutions, it is our duty to respond promptly to the requests of farmers and citizens who have long been asking for concrete solutions; – explains Councilor Lucarelli – for this reason we have launched an ambitious project together with the Lazio Region, ASL RM 2 and the Extraordinary Commissioner for PSA to transform the problem into a resource, creating a certified and controlled game meat supply chain, safe from a health point of view and capable of generating economic and social benefits”.
Safe and regulated consumption
"I would like to thank the Department of Economic Development and Productive Activities of Rome Capital, and in particular the Carni Center, for the important work done. The experimentation begins today. Thanks to this certified supply chain, we will be able to guarantee safe and regulated consumption of game meat, maintaining high ethical and quality standards. The involvement of all parties - from hunters to butchers, from restaurateurs to consumers, up to veterinary control centers - gives us the confidence to be able to promote a more sustainable management of the territory and its resources" - concludes Lucarelli (source: Municipality of Rome).
