Now it's official, even in Basilicata was born there certified supply chain of wild boar meat. The objectives are different, first of all to reduce the excessive number of ungulates, but also to support the agricultural sector in Basilicata (brought to its knees by the wild) and ensure the food safety of the product. The announcement came from Nicholas Son, director of the Italian Confederation of Farmers (CIA) regional.
The industry will buy carcasses from hunters and turn them into meat ready for distribution. Figliuolo stressed the fact that it is the first agreement between a private company and the hunting world. Several factories are ready to receive the game, moreover the meat will be “visited” from a health point of view and then marketed. Until now all this was not possible in Basilicata and it has been limited to selecontrol.
The supply chain allows hunters to keep the number of wild boars low, so it is an incentive to increase the number of heads each. The sale, then, will yield the profit of one euro for each kilo. The Lucanian wild boar population has been out of control for some time and the CIA itself has spoken of 60 thousand-70 thousand specimens as a more realistic figure to describe the phenomenon.
