Il Wood pigeon club he proposed the intervention of the president Francesco Paci to explain what wood pigeons are and what are the palombe, an interesting way to intrigue especially the younger ones who come close to this form of hunting. The two terms indicate the same wild, even if the valence is different from the emotional point of view. The word "wood pigeon" identifies the wild "Columba palumbus palumbus", while in Umbria and Marche the same animal is more usually called "palomba".
The reason is obvious: the ancient tradition of this hunting was developed in these regions when it was still common the use of Latin, therefore it was inspired by the scientific name of the species. Paci also recalled how the term “palombe” is used in France for the same reason. The hunting of the dogfish is practiced according to the rules of tradition, with particular attention to the calls, the scruple of perfect training and the study of the behavior of the pack.
All these details are not simple and for many hunters they even are unknown, but the charm is undeniable. One difference that the club president remarked is that of type of felling, given that the dogfish are generally "hunted", while the wood pigeons are mainly "shot".
