The management of moufflons at Giglio
Regarding the ongoing discussion related to the management of moufflons on the island of Giglio, which involves extremist and isolated animal rights associations as they operate in the absence of science and knowledge, the CNCN - National Hunting and Nature Committee - intends to reaffirm the legitimacy of its actions, specifying once again that hunting on the species in question is conducted in full compliance with law 157/92 and the provisions received from the authorities, which are also in charge of guaranteeing the correct application of the law.
ISPRA's opinion
As a legitimate exercise and decided on the basis of an opinion from Ispra - Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research - the continuous protests supported financially by the aforementioned animal welfare associations through the provision of accommodation and the reimbursement of travel for the activists, which involve the disturbance of the on-site activity. On the basis of these premises, the CNCN is willing to financially finance hunters who intend to go to the island of Giglio to exercise an activity which, it is keen to underline, is absolutely lawful.
The contempt of animal rights activists
Once again, the CNCN invites the extremist and contemptuous animal welfare associations of the data provided by science, as well as their activists present in the area to take note of the scientific evidence and the legal provisions in the area, recalling the need and the objective of the protection and safeguarding the environmental ecosystem and biodiversity, strongly requesting that they do not get in the way of an activity carried out in full compliance with current regulations. At the same time, the CNCN firmly requests that the local authorities responsible and competent in the matter intervene decisively and without further delay to ensure full compliance with the law (source: CNCN).
