Stop the "automatic" killing of bears. It was the Council of State against the measures adopted by Autonomous Province of Trento. Although not with the frequency found in Trentino, also in the Veronese area, and especially in the Malcesine area, the plantigrade has been seen in more than a few circumstances. In April 2020 in the hamlet of Cassone two women had found themselves face to face with the large mammal. So much fear for both, even if without consequences, since the animal had immediately disappeared.
A beekeeper from Calchere, on the hills above Malcesine, had found a broken hive in all likelihood from the very same specimen. Another sighting had been a few days before, always on the border between Trento and Malcesine. The previous year, towards the end of summer, on the border between Nago-Torbole and Malcesine, another bear was immortalized in a forest taking a refreshing shower in a fountain. Sightings in Trentino in recent years have been more frequent enough to induce the Autonomous Province to think of more drastic measures, up to the killing for the more "problematic" elements.
But now the judges of the Council of State have thus rejected the appeal presented by the Province of Trento against the WWF, which he had opposed the killing of the bear, confirming the sentence of the TAR, the regional administrative court of Trento which prohibits the Autonomous Province of Trentino from demolishing the bears involved in assaults on people without having first received the authorization of Ispra, Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (Arena).
