The large carnivores: a threat to the well-being of humans and pets. The Agriculture Commission of European Parliament is addressing the issue again. It is necessary to change the rules in force in order to reduce the damage caused by large carnivores to domestic livestock and to livelihoods of farmers. It is not just a question of purely economic damage, but it is also damage that affects the psychological sphere.
The cost for European taxpayers currently amounts to 28,5 million euro per year in compensation for damage caused by large carnivores. L'Association for Rural Culture calls for the implementation of an effective and long-term solution that will make it possible to put an end to the demographic and territorial explosion of the populations of large carnivores in rural areas across Europe in order to ensure the well-being of humans and natural habitats.
